Magnet Program - Cambridge AICE

North Marion High School is proud to be the home of two innovative and challenging magnet programs: the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) program and Biotechnology.

The Cambridge AICE Diploma is an international pre-university curriculum that prepares learners for honors degree programs. AICE allows schools to offer a broad curriculum by recognizing the achievements of learners who pass examinations in subjects drawn from across the curriculum.

The Cambridge AICE Diploma is made up of Cambridge International AS and A Level subjects. Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year course and counts as a double credit qualification towards the Diploma. Cambridge International AS Level is typically a one-year course and counts as a full (single) credit.

Congratulations to Shea Lopez, Kryztov Tank, and Esperance Han! These three seniors earned the Cambridge AICE Diploma Award with Distinction at the end of their 11^thgrade year. We are so proud of their outstanding success in the Cambridge program.

General Information

The Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) program is an international pre-university curriculum and examination system for academically able students. It is a flexible, broad-based curriculum that is offered worldwide in schools and colleges. The AICE curriculum features courses written specifically as preparation for advanced degree programs. It encourages high academic standards and provides an ideal basis for study at the college and university level. Students who complete the AICE curriculum will be provided the best possible foundation for advanced post-secondary studies anywhere in the world.

An AICE Diploma is awarded on the basis of examination scores and course work performance during seven (7) full-credit courses. By requiring students take a minimum of seven full-credit courses with at least one course chosen from each of the three subject areas: Mathematics and science, Language Arts, Arts and Humanities, and Global Perspectives. The AICE Diploma ensures that all students follow a broad and balanced academic program. Advanced (A) Level and Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level certificates for individual subjects passed are issued to those students who do not earn the full diploma. Within this framework, AICE offers an extremely flexible curriculum that can be tailored to your student's interests, abilities, and future plans.

The AICE program is an innovative and accelerated method of study offered through the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), a division of University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England. For over 170 years, the prestigious University of Cambridge has been setting worldwide curriculum standards through their examinations. American universities have responded with enthusiasm to the AICE program. The Florida Legislature has identified AICE as a graduation option and acceleration mechanism through which students can be awarded up to 45 hours of college credit. Students earning the AICE Diploma (in addition to completing 100 community service hours) will qualify for the Florida Academic Bright Futures scholarship.
