A high school credit is defined as 150 hours of instruction in a full year long course (75 hours for semester courses). Any student who has not been in attendance and received instruction for a minimum of 135 hours in a year course may not be awarded credit unless he/she demonstrates mastery of the course student performance standards. A minimum of 24 credits is necessary for graduation. Students must meet the appropriate testing graduation requirements as well as earn a cumulative 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Testing Requirements
Students must pass the following statewide assessments for graduation:
- Grade 10 FSA (or ACT/SAT concordant score),
- Algebra I End of Course (EOC) or a comparative score on the Postsecondary Education
- Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.).
- Assessments in the following subjects are required as part of the course and constitute 30 percent of the final course grade:

Students Must Achieve a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.0 on a 4.0 Scale on courses required for graduation. Calculations are based on the following scales:
General Courses: (unweighted)

D = 1.0 F = 0.0
Honors, AICE, & Dual Enrollment Courses: (weighted)
A = 5.0 B = 4.0 C = 3.0 (Used for MCPS class rank only)
Class Ranking
For graduation purposes only, the following shall define "honors graduation":
- Graduation with Summa Cum Laude (highest honors)
- 4.0 and above weighted GPA
- Graduation with Magna Cum Laude (high honors)
- Graduation with Cum Laude (honors)
All courses taken for a regular diploma will be included in the GPA calculation as described in the district pupil progression plan. Class ranking at the end of the fourth quarter of the senior year will be used to determine honors and high honors at graduation, as well as Valedictorian and Salutatorian (per Marion County student progression plan).
